Viz Extension Updates
Tree, Radar, Network, Donut, and Sankey!
For the past few weeks, Jessica and I have been working on various updates for the Viz Extensions.
Not everything has been published or available yet, but this week, I wanted to give you a preview of what’s coming:
The update for the Network is coming before the end of the year.
The new Donut Viz Extension is coming either by the end of the year or very early next year.
The new Sankey Viz Extension is coming in January.
As a reminder, all updates and new extensions are included if you have purchased the Viz Extension Pack. If you bought an individual extension, you can also access all updates and new versions of that specific extension.

Colorful Tree: Available ✅
We added a Color Mark for the Tree, so you can now color the nodes and links with another dimension.
Since we added a new Mark, you must use the latest file tree_v2.trex, which is available on our website. Tableau Exchange has not yet been updated.
This was challenging because the Tree shows information at different aggregation levels. To be consistent with Tableau’s behavior when that happens, we added “*” to indicate if a node has multiple different color values.
For example, using Category → Region, you can now put Region in Color, but on the Category level, there are multiple Region so that the color will be “*”:
With this new color feature, we also added the option to decide which level the color should be applied to.
In any case, this will give you more options to personalize your Tree chart!
Detailed and Wrapped Radar: Available ✅
Previously, the Radar didn’t have a Color Mark. Putting a Dimension in Detail was splitting the view AND adding colors.
This was inconsistent with how Tableau and our Extensions work, so we fixed it!
Adding a dimension in Detail now splits the view, and placing a dimension on the new Color Mark splits the view and adds colors.
Since we added a new Mark, you must use the latest file radar_v2.trex, which is available on our website. Tableau Exchange has not yet been updated.
We also added the option to wrap the text of the spokes and display them perpendicularly or horizontally. Your long labels will no longer cause issues!
Colorful Network: Coming soon 🌀
Like the Tree, you’ll soon be able to use additional color information on the network.
We also want you to be able to use a value to drive the size of the links. Hopefully, this update will arrive before the end of the year.
Stay tuned!
Movable Sankey: Coming soon 🌀
We initially decided not to release a Sankey Viz Extension since there were already multiple options.
However, multiple people asked if we could add our version of the Sankey form AdvViz as Viz Extensions. One key aspect is that you can move the nodes around.
So we’re working on it!
Things are going well, and we are now exploring which configuration options we want to add so you can personalize it.
Stay tuned; this will be released early next year!
Hassle-Free Donut: Coming soon 🌀
Finally, the donut 🍩
At this point, almost everyone knows how to make a Donut with a dual MAX(0) axis, a pie chart, and a circle…. but new users should not have to learn to do that!
So, coming soon, you can make a donut chart in Tableau with two simple drag and drop.
Expect many configuration options and the possibility of adding a main KPI in the middle with a simple drag-and-drop!
That’s it for this week!
