LaDataViz in 2025
Embracing Changes
Hello!
After last week’s 2024 Review, let’s focus on what’s next.
We are starting a new cycle in 2025. I show this slide in almost all my presentations and explain how learning something new has always been the starting point of greatness.
In 2025, our focus is again to learn.
Outside the comfort zone

Two significant personal changes this year will force us to learn and slow down our activities at LaDataViz.
First, in March, we will start renovating an old house with my father. This is entirely new for us, but my father has much experience and things to teach us. It’ll probably not be helpful for LaDataViz, but who knows?
Second, by the end of the year, Jessica and I have decided to move to Spain! After more than 10 years in the Netherlands for her (and five for me), it’s time to seek more sun ☀️. This means many administrative changes at LaDataViz and a lot to learn.
We have built LaDataViz to allow us that flexibility and accommodate our personal lives. Let’s see how things go!
While these two changes are very personal, there’s another significant shift that affects everyone. We’ve decided not just to be passive users but to learn and create.
Let’s talk about AI
Another significant change in almost everyone’s life recently is AI.
Besides the clear help it provides when writing code or brainstorming ideas, we have yet to learn to use LLM APIs to create useful AI-centered products.
On the other hand, Tableau has been pushing AI everywhere (even sometimes where it didn’t need to like to “Organize My Vizzes” on Tableau Public).

If you haven’t, I recommend you to watch this video about Tableau and AI by Tableau Tim https://youtu.be/AVkH9CMrmhU?si=f2OYpG7so-0_bOla
As data analysts making dashboards, we feel that we are not the target of the current AI product in Tableau. There is nowhere close to a Cursor to help us write code.
But what if we could build it?
A tool to help you brainstorm the best chart type depending on your data and goals.
A tool to give you live design and layout recommendations on your dashboard.
A tool to facilitate sharing workbooks with intelligently obfuscated data.
We have ideas, but we have just started learning how to build them. I am convinced that AI tools can be helpful in the context of our work, so stay tuned!
Our Goals in 2025 🎯
Here are our main goals for the year:
Move LaDataViz to Spain
Have one major new release every month*
Create at least two products powered by AI
Send at least two newsletters per month
Publish at least one video per quarter on YouTube
*(Viz Extension, tool, new feature on the Figma to Tableau Plugin,…)
With a focus on learning—and with many personal changes simultaneously—we might not have as many new things to share as we did the previous year.
This year will help us shape new ideas and ways of working. We hope you will stay with us on that journey as we continue to share it with you all!
That’s it for this week!
The last newsletter of January is already coming up next week, and we should have a new Viz Extension ready to share!
