Viz Extensions Updates
Price change and getting ready for Public!
We’d like to share the new pricing for our Viz Extension and discuss the current issues we are facing with the existing system.
Issue #1: Inconsistent Desktop User ID

One of the main reasons people are reaching out is that they use the same computer, but the User ID returned by Tableau Desktop suddenly changes.
We then have to correct that mistake and free the space again manually.
This issue only occurs on Tableau Desktop, as users in Tableau Cloud / Server are logged in and correctly identified.
Unfortunately, it’s a long-standing issue with the API and Tableau Desktop. For the user, it can be frustrating, and for us, it’s time-consuming. It needed to be improved.
Issue #2: Tableau Public is coming

On the one hand, on Tableau Desktop, you need a license to use all the features of our extensions.
On the other hand, we want the experience of using our extensions to be 100% free for Tableau Public users.
This means that to use our extensions and publish on Tableau Public, you’d have to either use the online editing option or download Tableau Public Desktop.
We hate when things are unnecessarily complex. You should be able to build your visualization in Desktop and publish on Public as you are used to.
Issue #3: Cost inconsistency
The cost of hosting the extensions is directly linked to usage and the bandwidth consumed. Loading the extension as a creator has the same price as loading it as a viewer.
Currently, a large company can purchase just one license and publish a visualization that will be viewed thousands of times per month.
At the same time, a small team with two editors needs two licenses to create visualizations, even though they only have a few dozen views per month.
This does not make much sense, nor between clients, nor in terms of our costs.
Solutions
Solution #1: Free on Tableau Desktop and Public
All our extensions will become free on Tableau Desktop. This will make it much easier to test, build, and see how it looks in any dashboard without the need for a license.
Once Tableau Public is enabled, it’ll also make it very easy to build in Desktop and publish to Tableau Public, without ever needing a license.
The only limitation will be publishing to Cloud / Server.

Solution #2: Team size plans
Starting early next month, new licenses will no longer be linked to the number of people editing the visualization, but rather to the number of distinct people interacting with it on Cloud/Server per month.
Here’s the breakdown:
Up to 25 users: $15 / month for all extensions ($4 for one)
Up to 100 users: $50 / month for all extensions ($10 for one)
Up to 500 users: $125 / month for all extensions ($25 for one)
More than 500 users: Enterprise license
What counts as a user?
A user is anyone who interacts with a published dashboard (including Tableau viewers, creators and explorers) on a given month. The count resets every month.
Existing licenses will remain unchanged unless you request to upgrade to these new plans.
Solution #3: LaDataViz Pro
As we develop more tools, we aim to offer a simple package that provides all the necessary tools in one place.
LaDataViz Pro will include:
Viz Extension Starter Plan
One license for Figma to Tableau
Filter Manager
BANg
future products
This is perfect for a power Tableau user, with all the tools to do everything in Tableau much more efficiently.
All these changes will take place at some point next week.
Meanwhile, we continue to develop new extensions and enhance the existing ones.
Stay tuned!
