Let's go Public!
Trusted Viz Extensions and inspiring presentations
🚨⚠️ Before we start: do not update Tableau to 2025.3! There are many bugs in that first release. Wait for the first patch! More on that below ⚠️🚨
Hi everyone!
Many new people joined recently after our different talks…
You are now more than 3000! Thanks!
We are back.
Back from DataFam Europe in London.
Back from a difficult move to Spain 🇪🇸 (more on that in a few weeks).
Back from months of planning, building, renovating, traveling, and feeling, most of the time, exhausted.
Things finally start to settle. People are preparing for the holiday season, and most tasks are either complete or nearly there.
In this newsletter, we want to focus on one major task that has been brewing for more than a year: Viz Extensions in Tableau Public.
Is it finally possible? Is it free? Are there restrictions? We’ll explain everything!
But before that, in case you missed it, you can check Jessica’s presentation (in Spanish and Portuguese) at Data + Women LATAM and Tristan’s one at the Tableau Public User Group right here:

Ok, let’s now focus on Trusted Viz Extensions!
Trusted Viz Extensions on Tableau Public
Viz Extensions have been available since 2024.2 (more than a year ago!). Most of you reading this know us from AdvViz, and Viz Extensions was the perfect evolution.
From the beginning, we have wanted to enable them in Tableau Public. Unfortunately, this was not possible for two main reasons:
#1 - Tableau needed to host our extensions, for obvious security reasons, Tableau would not let us run unverified code on their Tableau Public platform.
During the presentation at DataFam Europe, we showcased some ways we could push extensions too far by making 3d charts, or visualizations that react to sound! (watch the presentation, it was a lot of fun!)
Cost-wise, too, we could surely not afford to host the extensions for free for the potential millions of users on Tableau Public.#2 - We could not identify Public vs Cloud/Server: just like Tableau Public is free and Cloud/Server is paid, we wanted to have the same for our extensions. However, there was no technical way to know where the extensions were running.
But finally, after months of discussion and the help of Wilson Po’s team at Tableau, we made it: Trusted Viz Extensions!
We are proud to be the first and only Tableau partner with Trusted Extensions. All our extensions on Tableau Exchange are now verified, tested, and hosted by Tableau. On top of that, you can now use all our extensions for free on Tableau Public and Tableau Desktop, with no restrictions.

How to get started? As simple as before!
In Tableau, when adding a new Viz Extension, you’ll find new options to filter “Trusted Partner” and “Works with Tableau Public”. These extensions are hosted by Tableau and fully compatible with Tableau Public.

If you purchased our extensions, nothing changes for you! You still need to use the local TREX files. This is only applicable if you want to publish to Tableau Public!
So, is everything perfect? Well, not entirely…
As for most launches, there are some hiccups.
Currently, there are three (rather significant) issues that you might encounter:
Trusted Extensions are not loading in Tableau Desktop 2025.3.0. This was a very bad surprise. All extensions are loading correctly except ours. This is due to an incorrect setting in the installer.
Thankfully, you don’t need to update Tableau to use our extensions on Public. You can use any previous versions and publish to Public, so please wait before updating!
https://help.salesforce.com/s/issue?id=a02Ka00000lbKmGViz Extensions are only showing on Tableau Public if you are signed in. If you are not logged in, they will not load. This applies to all extensions.
https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=005232896&type=1Viz Extensions do not load for other users unless you Allow Access to the workbook. This is not necessarily a bug, but it is important to know!
Hopefully, most issues will be fixed before the end of the year, and we’ll keep you updated!
Rendez-vous next week for a new edition where we’ll explain all the hype around Authoring Extension API that we demoed at DataFam Europe!
