Hi everyone!
Before we start, the Waterfall extension is now available on Tableau Exchange! You can use it for free on Tableau Desktop and Public. https://exchange.tableau.com/products/1127
We're back with a brand new Viz Extension: Ternary Plot!
Ever needed to show how something splits across three parts that always add up to the same total? A ternary plot maps the proportions of three variables onto an equilateral triangle. Each point shows the relative weight of the three categories at a glance.

This chart was initially built as part of the Visionary Summit, where the Tableau Visionaries vote on three potential new features. The result was always displayed in a Ternary Plot built manually. I thought building an extension for it would make it easier!
Why Ternary Plot?
Ternary plots shine whenever your data is compositional:
Survey results where respondents split a fixed budget across three options
Compositional data like soil samples, alloys, or audience breakdowns
Comparing how observations divide across three competing categories
It’s not the easiest chart to read, which is why we added many configuration options and a guide to help you read it.

How it works
Drop three Measures on X, Y, and Z, then a Dimension on Detail. That's it. The extension places each mark inside the triangle based on its three proportions.
Add a field to Color for discrete or continuous encoding, and you're done.

In the Format Extension window, you can configure:
Triangle: axis direction, margin, stroke, color, and fill
Circles: size, opacity, stroke, and merge overlapping marks
Grid and Labels: grid steps, corner labels, tick marks, and a reading guide
