Hi everyone!
We're back with a brand new Viz Extension: Tournament bracket!
For your next competition, you can now quickly and easily build elimination bracket charts in Tableau. Drop your fields, and get a clean, structured bracket that shows how competitors progress through rounds toward a champion.

Bracket charts are a natural fit for storytelling around competition.
We already have the horizontal Tree diagram extension, and we thought that this new chart was a nice addition!
How it works
This is the first extension that requires your data in a specific format. Unlike our other extensions, a tournament bracket needs to understand the structure of your tournament: which teams played in which match, in which round, and who ultimately won.
That means your data needs to follow a few rules:
Each row represents a Team in a Match, with a Level (the round)
Round sizes must follow the elimination pattern: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16... doubling as you go back from the final.
For the winner: add one row with a blank Match ID. This tells the extension who the champion is.

This structure enables the extension to automatically build the full bracket tree, draw the connectors between rounds, and determine where to place scores and penalties.
We know it's a bit more setup than usual, so we've included a sample dataset and a clear guide in the extension's start screen to help you format your data in minutes.
Drop your Level, Match ID, and Team into Marks, and the extension handles the tree layout, connectors, and positioning automatically. Add fields to Detail to display scores and penalties alongside each matchup.

In the Format Extension window, you'll find options to configure:
Single or Mirrored layout with an optional centered winner and adjustable gap
Nodes format: shape, size, radius, shadow, and opacity controls
Scores and penalties: from Detail fields
Color: apply color to nodes, links, or both
Team labels: horizontal or vertical, with alignment, offset, and font controls
Level headings: positioned top, middle, or bottom, with word wrapping
Link styling: stroke width and corner radius

If you don’t have a license, you can test it for free on Tableau Desktop.
For Tableau Public, we work with Tableau on a monthly release (the time for them to test and verify our code, and host them as Trusted Extensions). This extension will be availble on Tableau Exchange for Tableau Public early next month.
Give it a try and let us know what you'd like us to improve!
We are always happy to read your feedback!
