Back to business

Tableau Public and website updates!

Hi everyone!

After spending some time surfing in Bretagne 🇫🇷 and attending a wedding in Turkey🇹🇷, we are back at work!

Today, no big release but a few interesting updates, especially for Tableau Public!

Viz Extensions on Tableau Public

We are getting close!

As we always said, we want to give all our extensions for free to Tableau Public users.

To achieve that, we need two main components:

  • Tableau to host the extensions, both for security reasons on their side, and cost reasons on our side.

  • Identify Tableau Public vs Cloud/Server: To maintain our business model, we must prevent the Tableau Public Viz Extension from running on Tableau Cloud and Server.

The good news is that the first condition is now satisfied!

We collaborated with Tableau devs, and they now host all our Tableau Exchange extensions on https://partner-extensions.tableauusercontent.com/viz/ladataviz.

Thanks to that, you can build a visualization that uses our Extensions directly from the Tableau Public website (before, you’d get an error message that the extension was not allowed to run).

Unfortunately, we still lack a way to detect when the extension is shown on Tableau Public. So, if you publish your work, it will technically work, but we have to restrict its use for the moment.

If everything goes according to plan, the Extension API will be updated soon, allowing you to build and publish a dashboard with our Viz Extensions!

This does not change anything for Tableau Cloud and Server users. You will still need a license to publish there.

Stay tuned, and hopefully we’ll finally get there with 2025.3.

LaDataViz.com got an update

We have updated three main pages on our website to showcase our tools better.

The first update is the mail /tools page, which now features a video demo showcasing the functionality of Figma to Tableau and the Viz Extensions.

For a long time, we didn’t have a page for the Viz Extensions, and we were redirecting to the newsletter FAQ.

We now have a dedicated page featuring a video, catalog, testimonials, and clear pricing options for direct purchase of the extensions from our website.

Similarly, for the Figma to Tableau Plugin, we previously redirected to the Figma community page. We now have a dedicated page with all the necessary information.

A big thanks to Pierre, who helped us developing these pages!

That’s it for this week!
